Cleveland Kurentovanje Children’s Village

The Children's Village, located in the downstairs hall of Slovenian National Home, is comprised of 2000 square feet of play and programing our youngest festival attendees.

Toddler through elementary-school aged youngsters will delight in of several different zones — fun for every interest and ability!

Thanks to our generous sponsors, donors and partners and grantors, everything in the Children's Village is FREE!

We kindly remind everyone that children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

Programming

10:45-11:15: Story Hour with Maria Bruner where we will be reading “Slovenian Folk Tales” (in English)
1:30 - 2:00: Sing Along with Mr. John Srsen (Slovenian Folksongs with English instruction)

Face Painting

In keeping with the theme of our Slovenian Mardi Gras festival, professional face painters will create "masks" for children. This is a free activity, you can optionally provide a tip to the artist but are under no obligation to do so. Face painting will take place from 10AM to 3PM.

Beading Mardi Gras Necklaces

Play Zone

The Play Zone is comprised of Babica's (Granny's) Kitchen, Stara Ata's (Grandfather's) Workbench and more, providing youngsters with an opportunity for engaging pretend-play. Play food and tools are labeled with their Slovenian name for an extra element of engagement-based learning.

Block Zone

In this area, children will have all the blocks they need to create a beautiful city, taking inspiration from famed Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik's impact on Ljubljana.

Build a City Station

Cleveland is a city. Ljubljana is a city. Cities look and function differently all over the world! Create your own city with wooden blocks, buildings and train tracks.
