Wheelchair Accessibility

Slovenian National Home

Exterior Terrain: The outside parking lot festival grounds and main ballroom floor of the Slovenian National Home (SNH) are fully navigable for people with mobility disabilities. The parking lot festival grounds are relatively flat asphalt.

ADA Entrance: The accessible entrance to get into the SNH is at the BACK of the building. Visitors requiring a wheelchair lift can use the lift which is right inside the entrance to get to the main ballroom floor of the hall. Note there is a flight of stairs at the FRONT entrance of the SNH.

ADA Bathrooms: There are wheelchair-accessible restrooms next to the main ballroom floor, complete with at least one wheelchair-accessible/companion restroom.

Notably, inaccessible areas of the SNH venue are the lower level that houses the Children’s Village and Bocce Tournament, as well as the upper level mezzanine seating area in that overlooks the main ballroom floor. Unfortunately, and due the the over 100 year old status of the building, there is no elevator that goes to the lower level or the mezzanine.

We encourage all guests with mobility disabilities to utilize personal forms of transportation, including wheelchairs and scooters. Cleveland Kurentovanje will not provide wheelchair or scooter rentals.

Slovenian Museum and Archives

Exterior Terrain: The front of the SMA there is a small (approximately 4 inch high) threshold to enter the front door.

ADA Entrance: A moveable ramp to cross the threshold at the front door is available. By request, a volunteer at the SMA will be happy to set up the ramp for you to enter.

ADA Bathroom: There is wheelchair-accessible restrooms at the Slovenian Museum and Archive complete with at least one wheelchair-accessible/companion restroom.

Service Animals

Service animals are permitted throughout the venue. “Service Animals” means any animal to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. Pets providing emotional support, well being, comfort or companionship are not recognized as service animals under ADA regulations and will not be allowed into the venue.

The following guidelines for Service Animals must be followed:

  • All service animals must remain by the handler’s side at all times and must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered. If these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or if the handler’s disability prevents the use of these devices, the handler must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls

  • Service animals must be housebroken

  • Anyone bringing an animal will be responsible for and liable for any damage or injury caused by the animal

  • All animals should have legally required vaccinations

Please note that the festival grounds contain large crowds and loud noises.

We ask that you do not leave your animal in your cars while you’re inside the event, as it may become too hot or cold and unsafe for an animal.

ADA Parking

Directly behind the Slovenian National Home in the parking lot, there is handicap accessible parking spots.

On Saturday, the day of the Main Festival and Parade, parking in this lot will be limited to five (5) ADA Parking Spots. To gain access to these parking spots, you will need a verified handicap placard, permit, or license plate to enter this parking lot. The person to whom the handicap credential is issued must be present in the vehicle, as a driver or passenger. You will show the security people your handicap identification and they will grant access to those five spots as long as they are available.

Should 5 ADA Parking Spots already be filled, security will allow access to drop off directly behind the Slovenian National Home provided you show handicap identification.

Note: It is against the law to park in an accessible parking space without the required ADA credentials or to fraudulently use someone else’s credentials to gain access to ADA parking spots.

  • ATM: The ATMs is fully accessible and located inside the Slovenian National Home.

  • First Aid: First Aid can be obtained at the University Hospitals EMS Truck which is located in the parking lot, noted on the event maps. Professional medical staff can help you with your medical needs at this location.
