Cleveland Kurentovanje believes strongly in creating connections where they might not otherwise exist, because we know good things happen when people are able to find and support one another.

A performer meets a new audience. A cultural organization finds a new partner. A speaker in Slovenia connects with a community in North America. A dance group travels to another city. Two organizations discover they are facing the same challenge and can learn from each other.

Sometimes those relationships already exist. Often, they do not. And sometimes the biggest obstacle is simply that we do not know who else is out there.

Across the world, Slovenian cultural organizations, clubs, churches, schools, museums, dance groups, choirs, community centers, professional associations, and informal networks are doing meaningful work—but there is currently no simple, comprehensive way for many of these groups to find one another and begin a conversation.

This directory is our attempt to help change that.

The Directory

Our goal is to make it easier for Slovenian organizations abroad to discover one another, communicate, share ideas, exchange resources, collaborate on programming, and build relationships across cities, countries, and continents. We also hope it will make it easier for Cleveland Kurentovanje to connect with Slovenian communities around the world and create new opportunities for collaboration.

As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, our hope is that this project is a positive contribution to the broader Slovenian community. The relationships we have built over the past 15 years have shown us how much can happen when organizations and people are able to find one another, and we hope this directory helps create more of those connections for everyone in the years ahead.

  • The Slovenian Organizations Abroad Directory is a shared resource intended to help Slovenian organizations and communities around the world find and connect with one another.

    Our hope is that it makes it easier for organizations to discover potential partners, connect with peers in other cities and countries, share ideas and resources, collaborate on programming, and create relationships that might not otherwise happen.

    This is not intended to be an exclusive or highly curated list. It is a living, community-supported resource that becomes more useful as more organizations participate.

  • We welcome Slovenian-connected organizations and groups outside Slovenia, including cultural organizations, clubs, churches, schools, museums, archives, dance groups, choirs, community centers, professional associations, student groups, and other organizations serving or celebrating Slovenian communities.

    If you are unsure whether your organization fits, we encourage you to submit it.

    We ask for basic public-facing information such as:

    • Organization name

    • City, region, and country

    • Organization type

    • Website

    • Public email address

    • Social media

    • Short description

    • Activities and programming

    • Areas of interest for collaboration

    Please use correct spellings, proper capitalization, and provide public-facing contact information.

  • Organizations are ultimately responsible for the accuracy of the information they submit.

    This directory is designed to be practical, not perfect. Organizations change, contact information changes, new groups form, and others may become inactive.

    Cleveland Kurentovanje is a volunteer-run organization and will periodically review the directory and correct or remove information when we become aware that something is outdated, but we do not have capacity to continuously verifying every listing.

  • Cleveland Kurentovanje has benefited enormously from relationships with Slovenian organizations, artists, performers, museums, speakers, dance groups, and individuals both within Cleveland and far beyond it.

    Some of our most meaningful programming and opportunities have grown from those connections.

    We believe in a simple idea:

    A rising tide lifts all ships.

    Better communication and collaboration among Slovenian organizations strengthens the broader community. The more we know about one another, the easier it becomes to share opportunities, exchange ideas, support each other’s work, and create experiences none of us could build alone.

    This directory is one small contribution toward making those connections easier.

    We hope organizations use it to find and communicate with one another directly, develop partnerships, exchange ideas, and identify opportunities for collaboration across communities and countries.

  • Yes. Cleveland Kurentovanje is a volunteer-run organization, and the time our volunteers can dedicate to maintaining this project is limited. For that reason, we are intentionally designing the directory to be largely automated and community-supported rather than manually reviewing, verifying, and maintaining every individual listing.

    We are comfortable with the directory being practical rather than perfect, but it still needs to remain useful and manageable.

    If the directory becomes difficult to sustain (for example, because of excessive spam, inaccurate or inappropriate submissions, misuse, technical issues, an unmanageable amount of cleanup, or other unforeseen problems) Cleveland Kurentovanje reserves the right to modify the process, restrict submissions, pause the directory, or take it offline.

    Our goal is to create a useful resource for the broader Slovenian community without creating an ongoing administrative burden that our volunteer organization cannot realistically support. As long as the directory continues to serve that purpose, we hope it will remain a living and growing community resource.
